This mulled apple cider is slightly different from other recipes, I like to add orange juice to mine. It adds a touch of tart flavor. You will still be using the classic spices; cinnamon, cloves, and star anise to create the tasty spiced flavor. Simmer it on your stove to make your whole house smell like Fall, and enjoy sipping on this warm and cozy drink.
What you will need:
Apple juice
No pulp orange juice
Cinnamon sticks
Whole cloves
Star anise
Ground cinnamon
The spices I like to use for my recipe are cinnamon, cloves, and anise. I love cinnamon so I add extra ground cinnamon, however you can skip this ingredient if you would like.
You will need a loose leaf tea infuser for the cloves and anise, or you can use cheese cloth tied up with string.
Add all your ingredients into one large pot and bring it to a boil. Then reduce it to a simmer for half an hour. Once done simmering, take out the cinnamon sticks and tea infuser.
Garnish with an orange wedge, cinnamon stick, or serve by itself. Enjoy this tasty Fall beverage.
Ingredients
[Small batch]
1 - 2 quart bottle of apple juice
12 ounces pulp free orange juice
3 cinnamon sticks
10 whole cloves
1 star anise
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon optional
[Large batch]
3 - 2 quart bottles of apple juice
4 cups pulp free orange juice
6 cinnamon sticks
10 whole cloves
1 star anise
1 tsp ground cinnamon optional
Directions
Add your cloves and star anise to a loose leaf tea infuser, or you can use cheese cloth tied with string.
Add everything to a large pot. Turn the burner to high heat and cover. Bring the contents to a boil then remove the lid and turn the heat down to low-medium or a low simmer.
Simmer for 30 minutes.
Stir the cider occasionally.
Once the cider is done simmering, take it off the heat. Scoop out the tea infuser and cinnamon sticks.
Let it cool for about 15-20 minutes. If serving right away you can add orange and apple slices to make it look more festive. Serve and enjoy! Careful it will be hot!
Store in the fridge for about one week, heat up on the stove or individual servings in the microwave.
